Announcement: Department of Justice Three-Month Plan

Following my appointment as Chief Justice I want to first make clear my immediate aims for the Department of Justice but also to address the public directly as to what to expect from myself and the Department of Justice going forward.

As made clear by the announcement following my appointment I come from a background as a District Attorney and have worked closely with law enforcement in the past this will not change. In this breath, my first aim will be to work with the Police Department to ensure a clear and transparent system for the public and a relationship with the public that will foster trust in the system. Furthermore, I hope that we can improve case filing times to allow for better operation of the District Attorney's office.

Secondly, my background as a trial attorney has taught me not only the importance of a fair system of judgment but also one that is free of delays and prolonged stress on any defendants that may be met with them. With this in mind, I will be putting great emphasis on increased remuneration on members of the District Attorney's Office and recruitment to facilitate the reactivation of the Speedy Trial Act to ensure that defendants get their day in court in a prompt and acceptable time frame. Furthermore, I also have aims to hire at least two more judges in my first three months to ensure there are no bottlenecks in the system.

I also aim to continue the work done by my predecessor Syn Castillo working with small businesses to build a stronger economy in the city that will allow individuals to accumulate wealth to further stimulate the economy through investments and private purchases. To achieve this the Department of Justice will be looking at small business grants and subsidies as well as government contracts to facilitate growth.

Finally, I hope to make an entry into the legal field less daunting for new lawyers I will be working closely with associates on the BAR governors Board to achieve this as well as pushing for further incentives and events for members of the BAR.

Primarily despite all of this, my aim will be to keep the ship steady avoiding radical changes in favor of progressive and staggered implementation especially regarding any fees or charges this will allow the Department Of Justice to better see the effect it has on the public at large.

I want to round this off by saying that this is my primary aim for the next three months and is in no way a rigid plan. I have an open-door policy and am open to new ideas and suggestions. My inbox is always open and I look forward to hearing what the public at large wants to see from the Department of Justice.

Kind Regards,
Chief Justice
